Multiple-occupancy houses
Cologne

The new all-round solution combining safety with performance

Reference: Not far from the well-known leisure island Groov to the south of the charming Cologne district of Zündorf, there was a ground-breaking ceremony in the first quarter of last year for new residential dwellings. The developer of the now completed multiple-occupancy houses in direct proximity to the Rhine promenade was MiYA GmbH. The two buildings each consist of a basement and ground floor, two upper floors, the second of which is a penthouse, as well as an underground garage, and together they provide a total of 11 luxury flats. Guido Loosen GmbH from Rösrath was responsible for the smooth progress of the construction work up to the turnkey handover in April 2023.

Minimum resources for an optimum result

In order to be able to deliver quickly and economically, Loosen brought on board the formwork manufacturer Mayer Schaltechnik, from Lower Franconia in south Germany, and its products on a large scale. The FLUXX system of stop-end formwork, which has been an outstanding solution for several years, was the ideal choice for the combination of cast-in-place concrete and cavity walls, as they were installed in Zündorf. In addition to the technical finesse, which enabled the finest of joints in record time, it also defied the rain thanks to the weather-independent design.

The lightweight ultraMAX L panel formwork system from Mayer’s modular wall formwork family was used for the cast-in-place concrete. Light enough to be handled without a crane and produced as a logical one-metre grid, it made a valuable contribution to efficiency and speed. The innovative formwork package was rounded off by the miniMAX support system for precast floor slabs. Thanks to the aluminium beams, it was possible to reduce by almost half the number of props required on the Cologne construction site and achieve maximum results with minimum resources.

An all-round solution for convenient, safe concreting

However, the Loosen company was keen to assess the capabilities of their first sigeMAX concreting platform. The platform, weighing just under 50 kilograms, and designed to enable trouble-free concreting operations at the highest safety level, left nothing to be desired in Zündorf. What proved particularly noticeable was the ability to use the application universally, both on the cavity walls and on the ultraMAX L panel formwork. But Mayer would not be Mayer if they had not gone one step further. Thanks to the modifiable suspension heads, it is even possible to install the sigeMAX on any standard panel formwork system. “The concreting operations with the sigeMAX on the cavity walls and the ultraMAX L formwork we rented on top were quick, uncomplicated and extremely easy for our workers, compared to other supports and platforms, because the walkways are very wide and non-slip. The fact that we can also use the platforms in conjunction with our existing formwork when needed makes the whole thing even more remarkable” commented a visibly satisfied Guido Loosen, evidently positively surprised by the flexibility of the universally applicable concreting platforms from Lower Franconia. As is currently often the case on many construction sites, there was little storage space on the area surrounding the construction site in this part of Cologne by the Rhine. But that particular scenario is not one that poses major problems for the sigeMAX products. Thanks to the drop-in guard rails all being identical – so, on the one hand, they do not have to be sorted and can therefore be stacked as they come and, on the other hand, they allow the platform to be configured individually – the local specialists did not have to worry about complex assembly procedures or individual parts that could be lost. Straight off the stacking pallet, all the components were able to be installed immediately and the platform was ready for its première, which was followed by many more days of use and produced a large number of satisfied smiles.
