Architectural Concrete Formwork for a Sports Hall and Office Building, Fürth

Maximum flexibility for architectural concrete: GS Schenk relies on PRIMAX telescopic girder formwork

A complex planning history, demanding architectural concrete requirements and tightly scheduled construction sequences: Fürth-based construction company GS Schenk Bauunternehmung GmbH meets these challenges with innovative formwork technology. For both the new “learning house” and sports hall in Spardorf and the new office building in Feucht, the team relies on the proven systems of Mayer Schaltechnik GmbH. The PRIMAX girder formwork has become a key factor in the success of both projects.

The road to the new Spardorf primary school required a great deal of patience from everyone involved. Following initial decisions on a complete refurbishment in 2014 and several rounds of replanning, renovating the 60-year-old existing building proved no longer viable from either an educational or an economic standpoint. In June 2020, the municipal council finally decided to build a forward-looking “Lernhaus” as a combined facility for school and after-school care. After questions about the location of the sports ground had been resolved and detailed specialist planning completed, the ground-breaking ceremony took place in May 2025. The structural shell construction demands a high degree of precision.

Widely varying wall heights are no great challenge for PRIMAX, thanks to its telescopic function

In the school building and the integrated sports hall, a total of around 980 square metres of wall surface is being produced in high-quality architectural concrete (exposed concrete class SB 3). In addition to wall heights of 3.16 to 3.70 metres in the school area, the sports hall walls in particular, up to 7.28 metres high, pose a structural and logistical challenge. PRIMAX formwork shows its full strength with these widely varying wall heights. Its integrated telescopic function allows the formwork height to be adjusted easily and flexibly directly on site. For the tall walls in the sports hall basement, the system was extended from 4.80 metres to 8.00 metres without difficulty. Once this construction phase was complete, the formwork could just as easily be reduced back to the standard height of 4.80 metres for the ground and upper floors.

Strong, stable formwork, very rigid, and simple, straightforward conversion on site, says site foreman Ludwig Weiss, summing up its advantages. Combined with a high-quality blockboard form facing, it produces flawless architectural concrete surfaces even in difficult geometries such as stairwells and lift shafts.

High-quality architectural concrete for the new company building with PRIMAX

In the prestigious entrance area, PRIMAX impressed on a good 670 square metres of architectural concrete surface (SB 3) with its exceptional rigidity and dimensional accuracy. Thanks to its easy handling, the DW20 tie rod in particular ensures efficient interaction during concreting. Site foreman Dzafer Cosic emphasises: Very stable formwork and straight surfaces. A big plus is that you can move complete units, including the concreting platform and push-pull props, in one go. That saves an enormous amount of time.

Outstanding architectural concrete results fully satisfied the site team

The positive practical experience gained on the Spardorf and Feucht projects underlines the close partnership between GS Schenk Bauunternehmung GmbH and Mayer Schaltechnik. Once again, PRIMAX girder formwork demonstrates how innovation and the highest architectural concrete quality go hand in hand on modern construction sites.
